DECEMBER 9, 2008
Hello All:
I just spoke with Nancy this morning & she asked that I send this email. Her son Rick had a stroke last night. Apparently there was a blood clot that was the cause & he is currently paralyzed on his left side. He was admitted to the hospital quickly & there is great hope that the drugs that were administered to him will help. The next 24 to 36 hours are crucial & she is asking you to please give them the blessing of your prayers. She & her husband Jim are with Rick & his family at the hospital in Bristol, TN - he is in intensive care. Any emails that you might send her will go directly to her blackberry - I know she would draw much strength & comfort from any notes of encouragement you might send her way. In case you don't have it handy her email address is [email protected]
Thank you in advance for your prayers & support. Dick or I will update you when we know more.
Teri Wiltshire

Good Morning All:
I spoke with Nancy last night & she asked that I update you on her son's condition. It was determined that he suffered a massive stroke with damage to both sides of his brain. Yesterday, a feeding tube was put in place & a small hole was made in his skull to allow a sensor to be placed on his brain. This will alert the doctors of any future strokes as he recovers. The plan for the day is to wake him from his medically induced sleep to see if he is able to breathe on his own. PLEASE continue those prayers. This will be a very important step.
Nancy wants you all to know how much strength she is drawing from your emails, your prayers and your encouragement. Her MPG family continues to lift her up & she is so very grateful. I will send another update later today & let you know the progress of the days events.

Good Morning All:
We just spoke with Nancy & things are not looking good this morning. The doctors stopped administration of the sedation yesterday & Rick has been non-responsive. They have determined that the stroke damaged his brain stem & that is responsible for the previous responses seen to stimuli earlier in the week. Nancy sat with him last night till 1am. Today, they are going to slowly wean him from the respirator and "wait & see." She has asked for your continued prayers and sends her love & gratitude.
Will send more information when we have more to share,

Nancy I just wanted to check and see how Rick is doing this morning. Is there any change? I was thinking and remember meeting Rick at a Master Pool meeting I think. Was he at a meeting? I am still praying and will always. I love you.
[email protected] writes:
Hi Dianna,
Yes, Rick has been at 2 meetings. He was at the meeting in Charlotte and in New Orleans.
Debra, Rick's wife wanted to go home last night to be alone so Jim and I stayed at the hospitality house. We got here this morning before anyone else and when I walked into his room they had shaved all his beard off. That was such a shock. Debra had never seen him without a beard. We were all really upset this morning but after seeing Rick we all said we feel so much more peaceful. I just know he is going to be ok. Nothing has changed but somehow we feel better this morning. I love you. Keep those prayers coming!

You must be strong and have faith. God has plans for those he calls his own. And we must rely on that. Through faith we can achieve things that are unimaginable. And on God’s will everything will be ok for you and your son.
We are praying for you that this will have the best outcome.
A big hug for you my friend.

Dear Nancy,
I know, no matter what I say, will not ease the pain you are feeling for the loss of Beau.
I lost my son 14 years ago. The pain never goes away. Your children are supposed to out live you! There were even times I wanted to die, so I could be with him. Every weekend I go to the cemetery, just to talk to him.
Thank God, I have other children and now grandchildren who will help ease the pain. They give me a reason to go on.
I just wanted you to know, there are a lot of people who love you and feel your pain. If you ever feel the need to call me, do so, and I will cry with you.
Your friend,

Dear Members,
Where do I begin to tell each and every one of you how very much I appreciate your care and concern over the past month? This has been the most difficult thing I have ever had to face. Sunday, January 4 was Rick's birthday. He would have been 36. I am sure God has his reasons though I do not understand; I am trying to go on through Faith. Rick was my only baby. My grandson Walker turns 12 next month and he is so very much like his dad.
I am attaching an article that I would love to share with you. The article was published in a little country newspaper the day of Rick's funeral.
Again please know just how very much you all mean to me. Thank you again for all your emails and phone calls that have made it possible for me to keep going. Jim, Debra and Walker send their love and thanks as well. We are all very blessed to be part of the Guild family. I love you all...

Hello Nancy
We have just come back from Andalucía, in the South of Spain, where we have spent the first days of 2009.
I thought of you and Rick in the cathedral in Sevilla, but there were no candles to lite, I thought of Rick in the Mezquita of Córdoba, but there were no candles to lite.
In Carmona, very close to Sevilla, we went to this ancient church, and found plenty of candles lit in front of the Virgin. I could have placed his candle somewhere else in the church, but I found that place nicest, with a lot of flowers. His candle is the second from the left in the second level (from underneath) at the right side of the Virgin. I lit it on Sunday, and it stays for four days, the nuns told us.

Dear Nancy,
I know, no matter what I say, will not ease the pain you are feeling for the loss of Beau.
Your friend,
Al

Nancy,
Once again, I am so sorry for your loss. Mike and the gang here would like to make a donation to a charity or church that was special to Rick. Would you, in your spare time, please send me some ideas. Even though we have never met face to face, I feel like you are such a special person and friend and I know that your Faith will pull you through. If you need someone to talk to or cry to, I may not know any answers, but I am a good listener.
Love ya,

Hi Nancy,
There are no words to express our sympathy for you and what you are going through right now.
I read this lovely tribute written by Ms. Johnson and cried as it truly touched me and demonstrated what a wonderful boy you raised. You should be very proud of yourself and take solace in knowing that he was thought of so fondly.
Our thoughts are with you,
God Bless,

I don’t have the words to make you feel better about loosing your son but I can only tell you that his in heaven with God. Good people like Rick do go to heaven and enjoy the blessing that it is to be close to God. I read the article and it put tears in my eyes. Be strong and always smile because Rick is looking down on you and you don’t want him to see you sad or crying because you miss him. He wants to see you happy and smiling at all times. I know you must be going thru your worst moments in life but be strong we are all here for you. We love you. I will have you in my prayers.
God Bless you and your family. Please also tell Debra and Walker to be strong that Rick is in a better place, also with good people.
Be Strong Nancy.

Hi Rebecca,
I am sorry I sounded weird when you called today and asked me about my holiday. It just kind of caught me off guard. You see my only son had a stroke on Dec. 8 and passed away on Dec. 15 so it has been a very hard Christmas. He was only 35 but would have turned 36 on Jan. 4. He has one son, Walker who will be 12 in February. I was out of the office for most of December. It is still pretty hard to talk about and I still can’t really believe it is real but I am back to work and trying to get back to some kind of “normal”. I just wanted you to know.
Take care Rebecca!

I am so sorry to hear about this. I wish I had something insightful to say to make things better. I only hope that you are finding comfort in your loved ones and your faith and memories of your son. He was blessed to have you, just as Walker is. I hope you are taking care of yourself, perhaps talking to other people, such as Al Rizzo, who have been through similar losses.
It’s weird to say this, but thank you for telling me. I was worried that I put you on the spot this morning. I sensed that you didn’t want to talk about it right then, but then I felt bad for not asking further, because I was concerned.
Take care. You’re in my thoughts and prayers.

Look up every night and you will feel him close to you. I do this every night and have for years and it makes me feel better. For my son that bright Star is his Nanny Star. Words just can't begin to tell you how you and your family have been in our thoughts and prayers.
Steve forwarded your note to me along with the story by Diane Johnson. How very sweet. There is nothing I can say that can make up for your loss, just know that we have prayed since the moment we heard your son went into the hospital.
If there is anything we can do, we will, you just say the word.

Hang in there. God, family and friends are the only way you can get through loosing your only child. Obviously God has another purpose for your son. Although this may not be consoling at this time sometimes it helps knowing he is in a much better place and will be there waiting when the time comes.
No one can understand a parents’ loss let alone a mothers’ loss. We are the ones that carried and nurtured them. I can’t even imagine what you are going through but now is the time you rely on others and let them help carry you through this!
A little piece of your son will be with you through your grandson. This definitely will not make up for your son not being there, but it at least gives you a little piece of mind that your grandson is a part of your son. So enjoy your grandson this weekend and weep as many joyous and sorrow tears as you please. It is your God given right!
Sincerely,

The Great Multitude
Behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands.
Revelation 7:9
Recommended Reading
Revelation 7:9-17
Certain Scriptures--Psalm 23, 1 Thessalonians 4, and John 11--comfort us in times of loss as if the Lord Himself were speaking to us as He spoke to Mary and Martha by Lazarus' tomb. We seldom include Revelation 7 among those familiar passages, yet it too is full of encouragement for the grief-stricken.
Revelation 7:9-17 describes those who will be redeemed and then martyred during the Great Tribulation; but much of what it says about them is true for all Christians in eternity. These heavenly saints were clothed in white, representing the righteousness of Christ. They celebrated before the throne with palm branches, representing joy. They were of every background and ethnicity. They sang with all their hearts, serving God day and night, free from hunger, thirst, heat, and care. God was a shepherd leading them to living fountains and wiping away their tears.
It's a scene of pure eternal victory; and if our dear ones could speak to us, they'd say, "Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom, thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever. Amen!"
Surely if there is rest and peace in following Him by faith on earth, there will be far more rest and peace when you see Him face to face.

Nancy,
What a precious and heart wrenching story that you shared written about Rick. I realize that I can’t fully comprehend how the loss of your only child has impacted you. Yet, I know you are one of strong faith, and that faith will sustain you during this most difficult period. Be assured you will remain in my prayers. I cherish what you and Guild means to me and my family.
May God grant you renewed peace in the days ahead. I look forward to seeing you in Nashville.

I think of you so often and pray that you have found some measure of peace. We just never know what the good Lord will throw at us to test our faith. The article about your son proved what an exceptional man he was and how blessed all who knew him were.
God bless you and your family in this new year.
Fondly,

Hi Renee,
Thank you and thanks for the prayers as well. How am I doing? I still don’t know. I have bad days and good ones. How do you ever get through loosing your only child? I am still crying a lot and still unable to believe it is true. I am going to see my grandson this weekend. He turns 12 on Sunday. This will be my first trip back since Christmas since I am about five hours away. I was just telling Dick this morning that I am looking forward to seeing my grandson but not looking forward to going since Rick will not be there……..

Sincerely,
High-Tech Pools, Inc.

Hi Nancy,
I just wanted to let you know that I saw and clicked on the attached link, for your son’s website. I did not know that you had lost your son, and I am truly sorry for your loss. I lost my father when I was 19, it’ll be 11 years on November 5th. It still feels like yesterday, sometimes.
Though we don’t know each other aside from emails and phone calls, but please know that I’m thinking about you.
